Helping make things better for the children and young people being treated at UCLH

Thousands of children and young people are cared for at UCLH every year.  Many of them have complex medical conditions that require long stays in hospital where they undergo specialised treatment.

Charitable donations to our Children and Young People Appeal enables us to support these young patients with the things that can make coming to and staying in hospital a little less scary and just a little bit better. Donations enable us to:

  • Improve waiting areas and inpatient ward areas, making them more age-appropriate and less clinical.  Studies have shown that improving hospital environments reduces stress and anxiety and helps to improve medical outcomes
  • Increase the number of play therapy sessions for young patients from five days a week to seven days a week
  • Purchase specialist play equipment to help distract young patients during painful treatments
  • Seed fund specialist roles like psychological social youth coordinators for teenage cancer patients dealing with prolonged and sometimes life-limiting diagnosis
  • Purchase high play value toys for young patients who are staying in hospital and/or attending appointments as outpatients
  • Provide snacks and drinks which can help alleviate boredom and help young patients engage with each other, and also assist play therapists in engaging with young patients

Please donate today to help us support the treatment journey of children and young patients being treated at UCLH with things that are over and above the NHS provision.
